CNPN 2022

MONTREAL, QC

MAY 16 - 18, 2022

Mot de bienvenue

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 13th Annual CNPN Symposium (CNPN 2022), which will take place in-person in Montreal, Quebec on May 16-18, 2022. The symposium will be hosted at the Bell Centre complex, home of the National Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiens. This year’s symposium will feature, as usual, top proteomics speakers from Canada and abroad. Some of the exciting researchers that are confirmed for CNPN 2022 include:

  • Dr. Lennart Martens, Ghent University
  • Dr. Rebekah Gundry, University of Nebraska Medical Center
  • Dr. Jennifer Geddes-McAlister, University of Guelph
  • Dr. Ji-Young Youn, SickKids Research Institute
  • Dr. François-Michel Boisvert, Université de Sherbrooke
  • Dr. Ulrich Keller, Technical University of Denmark
  • Dr. Hannes Röst, University of Toronto

CNPN 2022 will feature our now traditional trainee-oriented pre-symposium. Co-organized by trainees, Iryna Abramchuk, Luiz Gustavo Nogueira de Almeida, Arjun Sukumaran, and Rafael LoGiudice-Jimenez, this event will take place on May 16 and feature short scientific talks, as well as career development and social activities. We encourage all students and post-doctoral fellows to share their exciting research and connect with colleagues during this day.

COVID-19

We plan to hold the event in-person and will follow all COVID-19 public health guidelines in place in Montreal to ensure the safest environment possible. Recognizing that some individuals may be unable to travel to the symposium, given the COVID-19 pandemic, online accommodations will be possible to maximize inclusivity. Again in the interest of safety, this year, posters will be featured as short lightning talks during the main symposium instead of the traditional physical poster format.

For more information about COVID-19 guidelines in Quebec, please visit the provincial guidelines website.

Congratulations to our 2022 award winners!

About Dr. Leonard Foster

Leonard Foster, PhD, is a Professor and the Chair of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department at the University of British Columbia. The Foster lab studies a variety of host-pathogen combinations. They use quantitative proteomics, employing stable isotope labeling and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) but also use other high-throughput methods, such as high content screening and massively parallel sequencing. To fill in the gaps they then turn to more focused biochemical and cell biological methods. Recently they have described a novel method for mapping the protein interaction network within cells (the interactome) that drives the time and cost involved in such an analysis down by nearly two orders of magnitude; this technique will play an important role in many current and future projects.

The Foster Lab runs the Proteomics Core Facility that offers a broad range of services from mass confirmations to large-scale quantitative proteomic screens, along with all the associated bioinformations.

About Dr. Jennifer Geddes-McAlister

Jennifer Geddes-McAlister, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph. Dr. Geddes- McAlister’s interest in scientific research and academics began during her undergraduate degree at the University of Lethbridge, where she investigated the impact of fungal pathogens on agricultural development and performed her first proteomics experiments. This amazing experience led her to a PhD in the laboratory of Dr. Jim Kronstad at the University of British Columbia, where she applied quantitative proteomics to comprehensively profile the cellular proteome and secretome of the fungal pathogen, Cryptococcus neoformans. Her fascination with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and pathogenesis provided her foundation for a postdoctoral fellowship supported by NSERC and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, Germany. During her postdoctoral fellowship, she combined her expertise in microbiology and proteomics with experimental systems immunology to profile the interplay between Salmonella and its host during infection. Now, at the University of Guelph, her research group blend cutting-edge proteomics technologies with a systems biology perspective to explore host-pathogen interactions. Her team is interested in characterizing the mechanisms of pathogenesis, adaptation, and survival in fungal and bacterial microbes from a systems biology perspective through mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics.

Introducing: CNPN Unity!

CNPN Unity is a new initiative to highlight and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within the Canadian proteomics research and industry space. To celebrate its piloting, a special panel at CNPN 2022. If you would like to learn more about this initiative, visit the Unity webpage!

Thank you so much to our amazing moderator and panelists! From left to right: Jennifer Geddes-McAlister (University of Guelph), Claire Martin (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute), Mopelola Akinaja (University of British Columbia), Jacquelyn Jhingree (Medicago), and Sylvie Bourassa (Centre de recherche du CHU de Québec-Université Laval).

Online Poster Area

This year, poster presenters tackled the challenge of a one-minute lightning talk! Optionally, our presenters had the option to also submit an online poster. We kindly invite you to browse their exciting work! Please note that these posters are only accessible to our symposium attendees, until July 31st, 2022.
