Call for CNPN Board and OMT Members

The CNPN is a not-for-profit, federally incorporated organization created to provide a co-operative mechanism for building the proteomics research infrastructure in Canada and to further a better understanding of proteomics in the Canadian life sciences community. CNPN sponsors scientific conferences, seminars, and forums to create a national focus for scientific collaboration and education.

Two years ago, CNPN launched the Operation Management Team (OMT) with the objective to increase the network’s visibility and provide scientific activities all year long. Since its creation, the OMT has led multiple CNPN initiatives, such as the revamping of the CNPN website, the launch of an online monthly seminar series and the establishment of an active social media presence.

The CNPN Board and its OMT are recruiting new members. We encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, members of racialized groups, women and any others who may contribute to the further diversification of our boards.

CNPN Board of Director Nominations

The Canadian National Proteomics Network (CNPN) is seeking candidates to serve on its board of directors for a 2-4 year term that will begin in May 2023. CNPN is structured as a not-for-profit organization with a Board of Directors and Executive Officers. The Officers include a President, Vice-President Communications, Vice-President Finance, Vice-President Internal and a Vice-President Operations. The Officers are elected by the Board of Directors. Collectively, the Board of Directors oversees the actions of the Officers and ensures good governance. Directors meet on a regular basis with the Officers, typically by conference call at a time announced well in advance. 

There are at least four open positions on the Board of Directors and CNPN seeks your assistance to nominate suitable candidate(s) to serve as Directors.  Once the nomination period ends on Friday April 21, 2023, there will be a vote open to all members to choose the next Directors. The selection of the directors will be based on candidates receiving the most votes in an online election.

Nomination process
Candidates must be scientists from the public or private sector with at least three (3) years of professional experience in educational, research or commercial activities related to the purposes of CNPN. This includes principal investigators, research scientists, post-doctoral fellows, lab managers, technicians, members of funding agencies, etc.  At the time of the application, candidates must be members of CNPN.  Interested candidates should provide a biosketch describing a summary of achievements and research interests, training, awards and recognition.  This summary should be limited to 250 words and be suitable for posting on the CNPN website.  In addition, up to 5 relevant proteomics publications and a link to a website (if applicable) can be listed.  Lastly, append a picture to the application package, which will be posted alongside your nomination on the CNPN website (jpg or png ; please limit size to 200KB).

OMT Member Nominations

In anticipation of the Canadian National Proteomics Network (CNPN) Annual Symposium to be held in Regina, SK from May 15-17, 2023, and to continue strengthening our influential and productive Canadian proteomics community, the CNPN Operations Management Team (OMT) is actively recruiting two new members to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Organizing, hosting, and scheduling monthly seminar series
  • Develop training activities for proteomics trainees.
  • Building engaging activities and competitions for early career researchers
  • Interfacing with other proteomics national societies across the globe
  • Attendance at Board meetings
  • Advertising and supporting future annual CNPN meeting

Applicants should be members of the CNPN, at the position of graduate student, post-doctoral fellow, or research assistant at an institution within Canada, and conduct research within the field of proteomics. Experience with social media, virtual platforms, and event organization are assets (but not required as multiple tasks are available), and a keen interest in promoting proteomics research across Canada through science communication is important. To accomplish such tasks, an operating budget will be provided.

Compensation for these positions will include free registration to the annual CNPN meeting, an invitation for a travel award (as circumstances permit), a $250 honorarium, and a research presentation at the annual CNPN meeting.
